How the simulation moves

The live demo is not an animation. Every person, vehicle, boat and the helicopter decides its next trip on its own, from the time of day, the event programme and the rules on this page. The system only dispatches: pods answer calls, trucks meet the supply vessel, the marina assigns berths. This page is the rulebook behind the map, in the same words the code uses.

v1.5 · 2026-10-19 (profiles under each kind; walks and time indoors; profiles and yacht crews; resources; operators moved to the proforma cards). Rules read from the demo source (prototype/resort-glb) and the vault notes Resort Population and Guest Day, Fleet Plan and Vehicle Scenarios, Event Programme, Helipad Model. Numbers are the demo's, at reduced scale where stated.

Six principles

What holds for everything on the map.

1 · Time

One real second is one simulated minute. The day opens at 06:40; the week opens on Monday. Staff shifts change at 07:00, 15:00 and 23:00. Hours of the day decide what people want and what the fleet does.

2 · Three networks, strictly

Wheeled vehicles move only on roads and drop-off pads. People move only on walkways, promenades and village ground. Boats move only on a 10 m water grid with one cell of clearance off land, piers and the breakwater. Nothing cuts across a lawn or a quay.

3 · Routes, not lines

Every trip is an A* route on its own network. If no route exists, the trip does not happen: the actor waits and chooses again. A missing link is fixed in the master-plan model (a footpath, a road join), never faked in the code.

4 · Decisions are local

Each actor has one function: where next? It reads the clock, rolls a share from the guest-day table and looks at the events running now. There is no central script, except pod jobs raised by the system (helicopter transfers, pod calls).

5 · Energy

Pods, shuttles, carts, trucks and robots drain their battery while moving (a full charge is about 2.5 simulated hours of driving). Under 30 % they drive to their charger and charge 40 minutes to 100 %. About a fifth of the fleet is charging at any time.

6 · Scale

The plan is 1,000 guests on a peak day. The demo moves 330 people and a reduced fleet so the map stays readable; the dashboard scales what you see back to the plan.

Resources

The units of exchange. Every card in the proforma produces some of these and consumes others; the balance on the demo page sums them.

Water

Potable water from the desalination plant, 900 m³ a day. Rooms, kitchens, the spa, the berths.unit: m³

Sewage

What comes back from every drain, 700 m³ a day treated. 450 m³ of it returns as reclaimed water for the gardens.unit: m³

Energy

Electricity from the gas plant and the solar roofs, 95,000 kWh a day. Buildings, the desalination, the fleet's chargers, the shore power.unit: kWh

Meals

Covers served at the restaurants, the clubs, the village and the staff canteen. Each takes about 0.65 kg from the outlet's stock.unit: covers

Dry stores

Rice, flour, oil, tins, paper, chemicals. 30 t in the warehouse, 14 days of cover; 45 % of every restock.unit: kg

Cold stores

Meat, fish, dairy, produce at 2 °C and frozen. 12 t, 3–4 days of cover; the reason the vessel calls four times a week.unit: kg

Beverages

Wine, spirits, water, soft drinks. 15 t, 10 days of cover; 15 % of every restock, the wine programme on top.unit: kg

Fuel

Diesel and petrol: the power plant's reserve, the fuel dock for the yachts, the supply vessels. Landed by tanker at the Service dock.unit: m³

Linen

Sheets, towels, uniforms. 5,000 kg a day out of the laundry clean and back used, 6 hours turnaround.unit: kg

Waste

5 t a day sorted and compacted, 40 % recycled. Leaves the island in containers on the vessel's return leg.unit: kg

Trips

Guest rides by pod, shuttle and boat; deliveries by robot; truck runs. What the fleet produces and what every outlet orders.unit: trips

Bookings

A room, a berth, a table, a treatment or a ticket held for a guest. In the demo a booking is a guest whose home is the product: booked keys = guests in house ÷ guests per key. The accommodation cards show booked tonight, guests in house and who is on the premises now.unit: keys · berths · seats

Berth nights, room nights, orders

What the guests buy: a room or a berth for a night, a dark-store order, a treatment, a ticket. The revenue side of every card.unit: nights · orders

People

Seven kinds of people, each with a home, a profile and a day. Walking speed 3–4 km/h, runners 6 km/h. At a place a person stays 2–7 simulated hours and strolls around it on the walkways (a 15–70 m radius, depending on the place). Each person is given one of five profiles at birth; the profile weights the day table (a weight of 4 makes that place four times as likely; places not named keep weight 1). Meals go to any food outlet on the island; beaches are places: five spots on each sand beach.

Walks

Between 08:00 and 21:00, 12 % of the decisions are a walk for its own sake: to a promenade point, the marina, a beach spot, the village or the shops within 700 m, on foot only, a 6–18 minute pause, then the next choice. Points of interest for walks will be added to the master plan; today the walks use the places above.

Time indoors

A person who comes home (a hotel, a villa, a residence) is inside 80 % of the time: not drawn on the map, still counted on the cards and in the actors bar. The rest sit on terraces and stroll around the building.

Calling a pod

30 % of trips longer than 250 m go by guest pod: the person walks to the nearest drop-off, calls, and waits. Riders at the same stop for the same hop share one pod and are hidden aboard. After 40 minutes without a pod the person walks instead.

Arrivals and departures

Each mainland shuttle lands 12–50 people at the guest dock: half day visitors, 30 % hotel guests, 20 % members; after 17:00 all hotel guests. Hotel guests take a pod from the Marina stop to the hotel; the others walk to the village or the club. Departing day visitors and members walk to the dock and board. Helicopter guests appear in the Beach Hotel lobby after the pod transfer.

Events pull people

From 15 minutes before the start to the end, an event is a destination: 30 % of the people it is open to (everyone, residents only, or hotel guests only) choose its venue over the day table. Capacity is the venue's; events under 15 places do not pull the crowd.

Meals

Three windows: breakfast 07:00–10:30, lunch 12:00–15:00, dinner 18:30–22:00; each guest eats once per window, and a long stay elsewhere ends in time for it. Breakfast is in the hotel rate, so hotel guests eat it in their own hotel; residents mostly at home, villa guests get it delivered, yacht guests aboard. Lunch and dinner: the guest picks the outlet by a discrete-choice (logit) model: what this kind of guest likes at this meal (beach club at lunch, fine dining at dinner, casual in the village; the Members Club for members and residents only), minus 1.2 per km of walk, minus crowding above 80 % of the seats. Bars and the gelato café are drinks and snacks, not meals. A meal lasts 30–55 min at breakfast, 50–90 at lunch, 75–135 at dinner.

Yacht crews

Aboard at night (22:30–06:30). Mornings in the crew gym or the crew lounge, then work aboard; lunch mostly in the crew lounge canteen; breaks and the evening in the lounge, the gym or the village. A crew member's "marina" is the own boat. The crew lounge and gym are in the Marina support building; the proforma card shows how many are there now.

Event programme

Eighteen events a day across eight venues. The excursion boat and the regatta are events too.

In the air

A1 · VIP helicopter charter

Five calls a day: 09:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, 2–6 guests each. Approach from the WSW over the sea into the trade wind, 12 minutes on the pad, climb-out to the NW over the water. On landing the system raises two pod jobs: one brings the arriving guests from drop-off DO-23 to the Beach Hotel, another collects the departing guests at the hotel and brings them up before take-off.

What the system does

Dispatches pods to calls and jobs. Assigns berths from AIS tracks. Raises work orders from sensors. Books the excursion boat by the programme. Counts trips, deliveries, work orders, arrivals and departures for the dashboard under the map. The guest only taps; no phone calls.
